The adult body is approximately 50-60% water, so needless to say, your body needs it to function well and maintain itself healthily. Keeping hydration levels up by drinking at least 64oz of water a day helps with internal health, but sometimes your skin needs external help as well! This is where hyaluronic acid shines, a beloved ingredient in skincare that we'll talk a bit about below.

What water does for you:
- Aids in more effectively flushing out toxins
- Relieves fatigue by providing adequate hydration to your organs, allowing them to run, run, run better!
- Improves digestion, thereby allowing your body to create more natural energy and boost weight loss
- Helps your system to better regulate your body temperature by helping to increase circulation
- Treats headaches and migraines - do you find yourself hitting a midday wall and suffering headaches toward the end of your day? It’s very likely that you’re dehydrated!

All this hydration helps your organs the most, including your skin… Your LARGEST organ! It’s often forgotten about, being that it encases our body, but it works hard to protect us and one of the simplest ways we can help it is to hydrate it. Unfortunately, the skin is the last organ to absorb hydration so it can suffer the most if you’re not drinking enough water.

Often in skincare, you’ll see the terms “dehydrated” and “dry” - let’s talk about that. Some people can have dehydrated skin, some can have dry, some can have both.

Typically, dehydrated skin lacks water and dry skin lacks oil. Dry skin often results in rough or flakey skin, dehydrated skin tends to look and feel tight. There are different products that will be most beneficial for each type, but each will benefit greatly from the use of a hyaluronic acid serum underneath your moisturizers and/or oils.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?
In the simplest term, it’s a humectant. Hyaluronic acid attracts and holds up to 1000x its weight in moisture, and is a naturally occurring ingredient. Adding it underneath your moisturizers and/or oils will help your skin get the most out of those products by absorbing it and holding it where it needs to be. Due to this, it has a fantastic plumping effect on the skin, which helps with fine lines, especially those due to dehydration.

At Beautiful U, we carry a few different hyaluronic based products that we love! Today, we’re highlighting 2 by GM Collin: the Optimal Serum, great as an introductory product, and the GMC Medical Intense Moisture Serum which also contains squalane, another well-loved ingredient for hydration and anti aging.
